Thanks for your brief overview of Gnostic Christian teachings. They are varied indeed. It should be clear that they were discarded because they disparage the value of the creation itself, and by extension Jesus himself. Some gnostics were violently misogynistic as well; others exalted the feminine. Some were extreme ascetics; others were libertines. It all had to do with the devaluing of the material world.

Sacraments are by definition material: water, oil, bread, wine. Anti-gnostic par excellence.
