Seems to me that Mr. Chick portrayed in cartoon form the cheapest form of preaching heard all too often in churches: fear of hellfire. Manipulating people with such tactics is an easy way to be a preacher people want to hear. Sermons practically write themselves. Problem is, such preachers are in fact proclaiming Hell's Bad News rather than the Kingdom's Good News. And that has hurt millions,including many who write as atheists for Medium. Chick comics only perpetuated the tactic.
