You very helpfully point to an article about some forged letters by Pilate, and then two sources from the first century that describe Pilate as I have always imagined him from studying the fospels: a brutal tyrannical bureaucrat. It may well be that he was sacked because he was too brutal (if possible) leading to people rebelling because they had no choice. In any event, being posted to Palestina was no favor, considered by Romans to be the armpit of the Empire.
