It's the whole "suppressing the truth" thing that annoys me. I don't care whether Jesus was a vegetarian. It wouldn't change my faith one iota. The evidence for and against is at best inconclusive, at worst fitting him for a suit he didn't wear.

There is no conspiracy of silence.

That said, there are very good moral reasons to be a vegetarian, including the care of creation. That theme is now highlighted by the churches on the whole.
