Excellent presentation of accidie (acedia), aka "the noonday devil" since no one wants to move much in the heat.

Spiritually, sloth is like saying to God, "I know you love me and all, and you have a wonderful plan for my life, but I'd really rather not." Having experienced it myself, I can tell you it is just a dreary emptiness.

I hadn't thought of accidie as our culture's defining sin, so thanks for the idea.
