A welcome post. While Constantine didn't invent the Church, he did legalize it. Once it was no longer a secret society with membership punishable by death, all the conflicts around doctrine that had been brewing came out. So Constantine called the first council, Nicaea, which brought forth most of what is the Nicene Creed (the rest added in 381 at a second council). Many people say they yearn for a pre-Constantine church. I think this is a desire for less open conflict. But it is also naïve... there is no "going back to the Bible" as a community of faith.
