Certain American Episcopalians promoted their bigotry by claiming they were being persecuted in the US because of their godly adherence to "biblical marriage." They contributed to the hatred and violence against gay and lesbian Africans.

The missionaries also weer inconsistent. Many told their folks that slavery was good, and then that slavery was bad.
